As the Theatre Royal is remaining closed until at least 8 July, we are having to postpone this production. As you can imagine we are terribly disappointed, but with the whole of the Suffolk arts community we will back soon! Watch this space and keep Demis Roussos playing
Mike Leigh’s classic 1977 comedy of one evening in the suburbs. Hostess Beverly and her frazzled estate agent husband Lawrence invite neighbours to their home for cocktails, cheesy-pineapple nibbles and Demis Roussos. Nurse Ange and her ex-footballer husband Tony have recently moved in, while Sue’s daughter Abigail is having a party down the road, to which her mother is definitely NOT invited.
As the evening progresses, uncomfortable truths emerge in this hilarious and moving show. Abigail’s Party began at Hampstead Theatre, where it was improvised from scratch by the cast, which included Alison Steadman and Janine Duvitski. It was then seen in the BBC’s Play for Today strand and became an instant hit.
This amateur production of Abigail’s Party is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk.
